Lets get things straight…becoming a well established blogger doesn’t happen overnight. You need to find yourself within the blogging community. Your blogging style will change as you grow. You’ll find your aesthetic, writing style and audience over time. Some are lucky enough to land pretty big gigs early on in their blogging career. But the key to becoming successful is consistency. Consistency is key. I guarantee once you start posting more regularly, interacting with other bloggers and becoming highly active on social media your audience will grow and you’ll find yourself landing gigs with some fabulous brands. I’m certainly not saying I’m 100% there yet. But with these blogging 101 tips I’m getting there. I believe it’s taken me a while to find my feet as a blogger because over the past 3 years I’ve not been consistent due to other life commitments. Now, I’m finally at a point in my life where I can dedicate more time to blogging to get to where I want to be – eventually, a full time blogger.

Now this is something I feel can be quite challenging. Sometimes, I’d go weeks without posting. Then i’d make myself feel so guilty for not being consistent that I’d create an unattainable blogging schedule which would in turn do more damage than good. Now I’m trying to post at least 3 times a week until I can reach a point where I can stick to a schedule rather than the other way round. Why not try this strategy and see where it takes you?
BLOGGING 101 = QUALITY CONTENT
Don’t get too wrapped up in PR samples and the money. Remember your WHY you started blogging. Remember the purpose of your blog. Sometimes materialistic things blind you into creating poor quality content just to get some dollar. Your blog is worth more than that. Stick to the rule ‘I only post about items which genuinely fit with my brand’ and you will go far. Bloggers and general viewing public want to trust that you’re telling the truth about brands.
GETTING YOUR NAME OUT THERE
Send brands and PR companies emails introducing you and your blog. The blogging industry is over saturated and you need to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Don’t wait around for brands to contact you. Put yourself out there and you will eventually get noticed. Don’t be put off by brands or PR companies not responding to your emails or giving you a ‘no’. Send quality written emails that are tailored to the brand your writing too. Brush up on your blogging 101 skills and apply them right now!
No-one will ever see your posts unless you market them right. Trial and test out which social media platforms work for your blog. Certain platforms will work for one person but it may not necessarily work the same for you. I find pinterest is good for me but twitter or facebook might work better for you. Why not create some pretty pins for each of your posts and try to see what works for you? You never know, one may go viral! Don’t be afraid to use sites like buffer to schedule tweets and posts. By block scheduling your posts you’ll save so much more time.
Everyone nowadays has an iphone or some kind of smart phone with a decent camera. Technology has made impressive progress in the past ten years making it incredibly easy for pretty much anyone to get into blogging. But if you find your own photography style you will still get noticed. Try and practice shoot at home with a white background. Use a cheap white art canvas while you’re getting to grips with finding the best angles while shooting products.
Interacting with other bloggers will increase your blog traffic. Why not join the local blogging groups on Twitter and Facebook to get to know like minded people. You can always learn from others in order to build your own confidence with blogging. You never know, you might be able to share your own wisdom with them too. Remember we all start down at the bottom. Kindness never killed anyone.
GET INVOLVED WITH AFFILIATE LINKS
Sign up to some fashion and beauty affiliates. There’s lots on the market. I use Shop Style Collective because it’s easy to build widgets from styles you love. You can even create wish lists and come back to purchase them later. Support other bloggers who use affiliates. Although blogging is incredibly rewarding, we have to pay the bills so why not have a little nosey at their wish lists and give them a few on the adverts to support them.
