KOKOA VEGAN FRIENDLY SALON REVIEW | MANCHESTER
I’ve mentioned before how I struggled switching over my vegan cosmetics and finding alternatives in the beginning of my veganism journey. It wasn’t majorly difficult, it was a little confusing as to what was vegan friendly because a lot of cosmetics still aren’t labelled vegan even if they may be vegan. I’ve noticed lately it’s gotten much better which is amazing! It’s always a safe bet to double check ingredients online. A really helpful site I use is Double Check Vegan. It enables you to paste a whole list of ingredients into the site to check if it maybe derived from animals. Anyway, I’m rambling! Do you know what!? I’ve been vegan a whole year this December (yay) and haven’t had my nails done in a salon. Mainly because I find it difficult to find cruelty free places. So when Kokoa got in touch with me to try out their salon I was very excited!
Kokoa is based in Altrincham, Manchester. It’s pretty easy to get to, wherever you’re based in Manchester. If you’re arriving by tram it’s around a ten minute walk from the station – an easy walk. I was greeted by my beautician, Christine and introduced by the lovely owner too Akosua. Christine made me a little coffee whilst I got comfortable. I couldn’t help but feel relaxed already. Partly because it was such a lovely set up, partly because it was my first ever visit to a vegan salon. Honestly, I could have fallen asleep whilst having my treatment. Usually, as a vegan it can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to choosing cruelty free products. A lot of companies tend to shy away from admitting where their ingredients come from. There’s a hell of a lot of ignorance when it comes to the beauty industry so it was so nice to be somewhere I could trust to be vegan friendly. Not only is the nail bar cruelty free, they only use ingredients which are natural. A lot of the products within the nail bar are even hand made by Akosua herself – how impressive ey?
It’s rare I go to a salon, whether that’s a beauty or hair salon and feel comfortable. I often feel like I want the ground to swallow me up stepping into a salon. Unfortunately, I’ve had so many bad experiences it’s kind of put me off. Kokoa salon is totally different. It’s chilled out vibe is something you can only wish for when having a beauty treatment. The music played throughout my experience was a mix between classics and relaxing tunes such as The XX.
I chose to have nail extensions. I took inspiration from Pinterest. I showed Christine the image I’d like to have. Christine did an amazing job. Pretty much identical to the photo I showed her. I wanted something quirky with a little Christmas touch to them. She used nail extensions and gel nail polish over the top. I asked how long they usually last – she said 2 weeks but they lasted just over 2 weeks which I was so happy about! Don’t be fooled into thinking Kokoa just offer nail treatments. They offer an array of treatments including: threading, waxing, facials, massages and other body treatments. Whether you’re vegan or trying to be more conscious with what you use on your skin Kokoa is definitely worth a visit. Don’t forget to tag me in your photos if you do happen to get your nails done! I love seeing what nail colours people go for 🙂
Thanks for reading my lovelies xx
